I love pears. And if you do too, you’ll love these simple Honey Baked Pears. I love baking with pears and including them fresh in salads. This time of year though I start craving warm desserts. And these are just the thing for a delicious warm treat.
I bake these with honey, cinnamon, vanilla and a little butter. A creamy element balances our the rich sweetness, so I’ve added a dollop of Crème Fraîche. Feel free to use Greek yoghurt, vanilla ice cream or even cream cheese if you wish. And since I always need a crunch factor, I’ve sprinkled over some granola. This is one of my go-to secrets for adding a little nutty crunch to any dessert. It’s not just great for breakfast.
You substitute the pears with apples, plums or stone fruit, like my Grilled Cinnamon Maple Peaches version and you can substitute the honey for maple syrup as I did in that recipe and in my Maple Baked Pears. Feel free to use your favourite shop bought granola. Or if you like to make your own like I do, check out the various granola recipes I have available here on the blog in the Breakfast & Brunch section of my recipes menu.
Honey Baked Pears
Ingredients
- 4 Ripe but firm pears
- ½ Cup Honey
- 2 Tbsp Butter melted
- ½ tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1 tsp Vanilla paste, extract, or the seeds of one vanilla pod
Optional Toppings:
- Granola
- Crème Fraîche/ Ice Cream / Greek Yoghurt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C
- I use 1 pear (two halves) per person
- Cut the pears in half, then remove the core and seeds with a melon baller or measuring spoon. I don't peel the pears but you can if you wish. Slice a small piece off the back of each pear half to help them lie flat
- Place the pears cut side up in an oven dish
- Sprinkle the cinnamon over the pears
- Melt the butter. If using a vanilla pod, cut it in half length ways and scrape out the seeds with the back of a knife. Set the pod aside to add while baking. Mix the honey, melted butter and vanilla in a jug
- If using a vanilla pod, place it on top of the cinnamon sprinkled pears. Then pour the honey, butter, vanilla mixture evenly over the top of the pears
- Bake the pears for 20 – 25 minutes, then turn them over and bake for an additional 20 – 25 minutes until tender
- Note: A knife should easily pierce the pears but they should not fall apart
- Serve warm, spooning over the leftover honey sauce. Then add a dollop of Crème Fraîche, ice cream, or yogurt and sprinkle with your favourite granola or toasted nuts
