Hey there fellow foodies! I’m Vanessa. Wishing you a very warm welcome to My Homemade Kitchen. I am a humanitarian and human rights advocate turned food obsessed recipe blogger. After dedicating my life to helping others, I decided to create a bit more of a work/life balance several years ago. I left a 15 year career in the Human Rights and non-profit sector and started a new journey focused on life, love and family.
The kitchen is my happy place and where you will find me most evenings. Weekends are spent exploring food markets, delis, farms and the fantastic array of world class restaurants the Western Cape has to offer, or whipping up some tasty desserts or baked goods at home. My love of food, flavour and fun helps me to not only produce wonderfully delicious creations, but a ton of good memories with friends and family too.
My Homemade Kitchen is about simplicity, creativity, colour and deliciousness. I make almost everything from scratch to ensure that my food is wholesome and free of nasties. And although I absolutely love my time in the kitchen, life is too short to slave over a hot stove for hours on end so my recipes are uncomplicated, mostly quick, and very adaptable. I like to make use of what I have in my fridge or food cupboard or what is in season, so a lot of my ingredients can easily be substituted. I also love supporting local producers and small businesses that share my ethos, so you will occasionally find a pre-made ingredient or two thrown into the mix.
My recipes are family friendly flavour feasts. I do not use expensive tools or appliances so they are suitable for beginners as well.
Hop on over to my recipe pages and give some a whirl. Your comments and suggestions are always appreciated. And please do tag me on Instagram if you make one of my recipes.
Happy cooking!
